Will Baker joins the GM Moving Board and will take over as Chair of the Audit and Risk sub-committee.
Will Baker has joined the Greater Manchester Moving Board of Trustees following the charity’s AGM last week (Friday 6 October).
A fellow member of The Institute of Chartered Accounts in England and Wales, Will has enjoyed 30 years’ in professional practice, with over 26 years’ spent with KPMG.
As Audit Partner, he has extensive experience of working with multinational and domestic groups as well as charitable organisations.
He has successfully project managed a key component of KPMG’s Global Audit Development project, led KPMG’s approach to family businesses in the North of England and led a UK Audit Gender Diversity project.
Will, who has been a Board observer throughout 2023, will take over as Chair of the Audit and Risk committee while Steven Pleasant MBE moves to Chair of Nominations and Renumeration committee.
Former committee chairs Richard Roe and Rob Young MBE are both stepping down from the GM Moving Board having served the maximum three terms recommended in the Sport England Governance Code.
Will Baker said:
“Having just stepped down from KPMG, I wanted to find a role with purpose that could utilise the skills I have acquired during my professional career and allow further development for me to really make a difference for others.
“Couple this with my passion for physical activity and sport and my personal objective to become more active and I don’t think I could have found a better role.”

GM Moving’s Strategic Director Eve Holt was part of a three-person team responsible for co-authoring a chapter on active travel.
The latest Active Lives Children and Young People (CYP) Survey data from Sport England for the academic year 2023-24 have been released. The national data indicates that physical activity levels remain stable with 47% of CYP being active.
34 community groups and organisations will be receive grants from the 2024/25 GM Walking and Wheeling Fund, supported by GM Integrated Care Partnership and distributed by GM Moving, Salford CVS and 10GM.
