GM Moving are delighted to welcome Joe Sarling to our Active Partnership team as Strategic Director for Health, covering Beth Sutcliffe’s upcoming maternity leave.

Joe is a former Director of Policy and Research at think tank New Local where he championed the transformative and system-changing role of community power.

He brings deep expertise in placemaking, housing, and homelessness from various roles in the housing sector, most recently as Head of Research and Analysis at Homes England, central government’s housing agency.

Joe will lead the GM Moving health team which includes Strategic Lead for Marketing and Communications, Andrew Lawton, and a second new arrival in Kate Harding.

Kate picks up the Strategic Lead for Health Inequalities role from Claire Duffy, who has completed her secondment and returned to her role with the NHS in Manchester.

Kate has already enjoyed some great successes with GM Moving since joining as Strategic Lead – Partnerships in September, building many trusted relationships with regional and national governing bodies and supporting the launch of the Tackling Inequalities Network.

She has previously held roles across the VCSE sector, with a focus on tackling inequalities and improving wellbeing

Joe - who will also sit on the GM Moving Executive Team - Kate, and Andrew will be working alongside Project Lead Imogen Halls and Project Support Niamh Moore to build movement and physical activity into more health and care pathways.

As well as supporting NHS GM’s delivery of GM Moving in Action, the team are committed to connecting with health as a key priority in Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy.

New Strategic Director for Health, Joe Sarling, said:

“I’m delighted to be joining GM Moving at such an important moment.

"I’m looking forward to continuing the great partnership working across Greater Manchester and embedding the critical role that being active has to healthier lives and improved wellbeing.”

New Strategic Lead for Health Inequalities, Kate Harding, said:

“I’m looking forward to working within the brilliant health team at GM Moving and to continue the work already underway in integrating movement and physical activity across the health and social care system."
