Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Executive Director of Place at Sport England, spoke to more than 300 attendees at the 2023 GM Moving conference at Etihad Stadium.
Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Executive Director at Sport England, is confident Greater Manchester is on the right path with their efforts to put people and place at the forefront of efforts to boost activity levels.
Greater Manchester’s GM Moving in Action strategy advocates a place-based approach which creates the conditions for a healthy, green city region where everyone can move and live a good life.
Ms Dodd-Mayne was speaking at the GM Moving Conference in Manchester, an event bringing together partners from across the city region to lead, learn, and enable active lives for all.
The 350 attendees at the Etihad Stadium, plus hundreds more viewing online, heard how movement can be built back into everyone’s lives when taking a place-based approach.
Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Executive Director of Place at Sport England, said:
“Sport England’s Uniting the Movement strategy challenges people and organisations to work differently and in Greater Manchester it’s clearly a way of working that is well embedded across the region.
“Attendees at today’s GM Moving conference are listening to the voices of their local communities and working closely with them to ensure movement is part of everyday life in Greater Manchester.
“Sport England are delighted to be working closely with GreaterSport and colleagues across sectors in Greater Manchester, to support the city region’s own movement for movement.”
Hayley Lever, Exec Lead GM Moving and CEO, GreaterSport, said:
“It’s fantastic to see hundreds of people come together, in-person and online, to show their support for active lives for all and be a part of our movement for movement.
“I’ve loved seeing the light shone on the incredible work happening across the city region, the, honest sharing of common challenges and how the conference re-energised and refocused us all for sustained change across GM.
“Everyone has a role to play. If you are supporting a healthier, happier, Greater Manchester in your community or through your work, we’re inviting everyone to join us on the journey.”
GM Moving’s Strategic Director Eve Holt was part of a three-person team responsible for co-authoring a chapter on active travel.
