GreaterSport is delighted to welcome Sally Carr MBE and Steven Pleasant MBE as new members to their Board of Trustees, both for three-year terms.

Steven works with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority, acting as an adviser to the Mayor of South Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard, on improving healthy life expectancy.

Previously, he was Chief Executive at Tameside Council and Chair of GM Moving. He was also GM Chief Executive Lead for Active Travel and Health and Social Care.

Sally is North West Director for StreetGames UK and Pride Sports' Director of Youth. Before those roles, she was Joint Chief Executive Officer for The Proud Trust.

Sally is already a Trustee of Youth Focus North West and National Youth Agency, as well as being a member of the GM Equality Alliance and Women and Girls Advisory group to GM Mayor.

On her appointment, Sally Carr MBE said:

“GreaterSport are championing a system-change approach across Greater Manchester.

“This radical approach will ensure the most disadvantaged and discriminated against children and young people across our collective communities will benefit and thrive.

“We have seen the harm caused when systems remain the same, and the positive outcomes achieved when systems have positively changed.

“I want to be part of this radical change and contribute to ensuring we strive to thrive.”

Steven Pleasant MBE said:

“I am genuinely excited by the vision for Greater Sport and GM Moving. As the former Chair of GM Moving, I have seen first-hand the impact GreaterSport, and our movement for movement, is having in Greater Manchester.

“I hope through a mixture of my experience and passion I can add something to this journey and the impact it is having on the quality of people’s lives and the communities they live in.”

Chair of GreaterSport, Mike Perls MBE, added:

“I’m extremely proud to welcome Steven and Sally to our team, they’ll both add invaluable professional and lived experience to the outstanding GreaterSport board.

“Alongside their experience, I know both new members will add incremental diversity in thinking to the board and wider team as we continue in our mission to help set conditions to change lives through activity in Greater Manchester.

“I look forward to working with both Steven and Sally as we move into a pivotal year for the organisation and the city region continuing our collective progress towards active lives for all.”
