Greater Manchester (GM) Moving are increasing work to design movement into all health and care pathways with a series of new health-focused job roles to support patients to live well.

People and patients who are active are significantly more likely to have better health and wellbeing such as reduced risk of cardiac-related, cancer, and respiratory diseases.

Research also shows, in addition to these long-term impacts, there are immediate benefits for everyone of moving more such as improved mood and self-esteem and reduced stress.

GM Moving are connecting existing organisations and approaches that increase movement, utilising and amplifying evidence-based approaches.

The team work with healthcare professionals and leaders to reduce pressure on the health and care system by promoting and advocating for movement and physical activity as a pathway to better health.

Claire Duffy joins the charity as Strategic Lead for Health Inequalities today (1 November) from Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust on a secondment, initially until March 2024.

Claire joins a health team, led by Strategic Director Beth Sutcliffe, which includes Andrew Lawton as Strategic Lead for Marketing and Communications (Health) and Project Lead Imogen Halls.

Andrew and Imogen have both moved from different roles within Greater Manchester Moving while Niamh Moore also joins the Active Partnership’s health team as a Project Support Lead.

Strategic Director, Beth Sutcliffe, said:

“We want to support better collaboration between the health and care system and our partners in physical activity, sport, transport, planning, etc - it's all part of our whole-system approach.

“We are determined at GM Moving to play our part in supporting the health care system by ensuring movement is a key part of the lives of everyone in our city region.

“I’m really excited by the potential within this new, highly-skilled team and encourage anyone within the health and social care to get in touch to find out how moving more supports your work with patients.”
