10 charities, 10 challenges, 10 champions - people all across Greater Manchester can be part of the biggest fundraising legacy event the city has ever seen

Iconic city brand I Love MCR, which launched in reaction to the mindless riots in 2011, has spent over 10 years championing community and charity across Greater Manchester.

Now, the new I Love MCR Power Awards are about to bring both together in spectacular fashion - with a healthy dose of competitive spirit, for good measure.

And people all across the city region can get involved and be part of it.

Charities have been adversely affected by the ongoing pandemic. But we remain resilient, and we want to show that we are all in this together.

The ambition is to get people active, create awareness of the work charities do, and create one of the biggest fundraising legacy events the city has ever seen.

So I Love MCR selected 10 charities, and asked them to suggest 10 unique physical challenges for 10 powerful Mancs to take on.

The I Love MCR Charity Foundation raises vital funds to improve the lives and community culture of people across Greater Manchester, and supports 10 deserving beneficiary charities all based in the city region, who will all equally benefit from the I Love MCR Power Awards.

This means that money raised will go to support charities including Forever Manchester, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, and the Lord Mayor’s Charity Trust (aka We Love MCR Charity) as well as Brainwave, Cash For Kids, Wipe Your Tears, The Running Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, British Heart Foundation, and National Literacy Trust.

From powering through Greater Manchester on a bike taking in all ten boroughs or climbing the stairs of nine of the city’s tallest buildings to running 81 miles to create a giant love heart around Manchester, these challenges are designed to test people’s limits - for a great cause.

Whether they’d like to swim lengths in a local swimming pool to raise funds that will help transform the lives of children with disabilities or visit 40 iconic Manchester venues accompanied by a 5ft cuddly monkey mascot, taking selfies along the way, there’s a challenge for everyone.

The challenges may be hard, but they’re full of heart - and great fun, too.

I Love MCR is now looking for 10 individuals eager to take on the ten different challenges, and the stories of why they’d like to get involved. Then there will be a public vote to decide who gets to take on each one.

And even those who aren’t nominated can take part in their own challenge if they’d like, and raise funds for the foundation.

Applications for the challenges are open now, with the shortlisted nominees to be revealed a few weeks before each challenge begins.

I Love MCR will be sharing the progress of each challenge, and all the champions and achievements will be celebrated at the International Suite of the Manchester Mercure Hotel on the 24th Nov 2022.

If you have the power to give something, you have a lot to gain.

Love Manchester? Now’s the time to prove it.
