Celebrating and shining a spotlight on the role sport and physical activity plays in changing lives
It is with regret that due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year’s Greater Manchester Sports Awards event planned for November, has been cancelled.
The Covid-19 lockdown requires people to stay and work at home, with many businesses redeploying or furloughing staff and sports organisations temporarily closing their doors. With some local authority staff also amongst the redeployed and furloughed, many borough awards may also not be able to go ahead. We are also aware that during this time many people are under more significant personal and financial pressures and we do not wish to add to that.
However during this time, we have seen the sport and physical activity sector step up and come together to support Greater Manchester through these unprecedented times, and we want to celebrate that. Now more than ever, the role of physical activity and sport in changing lives is at the forefront of the nation’s mind, as we see people turn to physical activity during a time of crisis.
So, we will still be celebrating and shining a spotlight on the role sport and physical activity plays in changing lives, just in a different way.
We will be gathering and sharing inspirational stories from people and organisations across our great city region about how they are helping to #KeepGMMoving through social media and our website. We want to celebrate the work being done to provide opportunities for our residents to move more, celebrate those who have gone above and beyond and those who have changed their life for the better.
As well as celebrating the great work being done during Covid-19, we will also be celebrating the achievements and outstanding contributions made prior to the pandemic.
We will be celebrating these success stories throughout the week in which the 20th annual Greater Manchester Sports Awards were due to be hosted – from the 16th-20th November. If you have a story of an individual or organisation that you would like to feature as part of our celebration event, then please fill in this short form on our website.
