It has been another extremely busy year for the movement, physical activity and sport community in Greater Manchester.
As covid-19 restrictions lifted, organisations, individuals, and volunteers across our city region, and within each of our 10 localities, have worked incredibly hard to help their communities get moving and enjoy active lives.
The release of Sport England’s Active Lives data showing that children’s activity levels in Greater Manchester have bounced back beyond pre-pandemic levels, shows that the hard work is paying off but that our mission is not yet complete.
After such a busy 12 months, this week, we will be sharing the outstanding achievements of our partners across the region and encourage you to do the same using #GMMoving on Twitter.
Everyone's amazing work deserves recognition, many localities have already hosted awards to celebrate the inspirational ways in which their communities have supported active lives, and we want to share your stories.
Get involved using the #GMMoving hashtag and let us know who your GM Action Heroes for 2022 are.
Hayley Lever, Exec Lead GM Moving and CEO GreaterSport, said:
"I am delighted to share some of the stories of the work from across Greater Manchester this year. Every day, I see, hear and feel the impact of phenomenal work by people, community groups and partners in every borough. It is inspirational and impressive.
"2022 has been re-energising as people and communities emerge from the difficult times of the pandemic. Of course, we are still in challenging times; the early months of Covid recovery alongside mounting cost of living and energy cost pressures. In spite of and because of these pressures, keeping GM Moving is as critical as ever.
"The way that people have continued to transform and innovate to navigate challenges has been phenomenal. The latest Active Lives data for children and young people show that it is working.
"Activity levels for adults and children are recovering at a faster rate here than the national average. We still have ground to make up, and inequalities to attend to.
"I am full of optimism about what the people of Greater Manchester can do together in 2023, and would like to thank each and every person who is supporting Active Lives for All - wherever they are.
"I would encourage everyone to read, watch and share the stories from their communities. Doing so gives important recognition to some amazing individuals and organisations and helps to keep growing the movement for movement."
