As part of the EFL’s Day of Action, Bolton Wanderers Community Trust (BWCT) has focused on our Communities United project, which since December 2020, has engaged 10 families from across Bolton. The project is funded through the EFL Trust and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) and works with families from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and religions. The project, working in partnership with Bolton Solidarity Community Association (BSCA) aims to increase community cohesion by bringing people together to increase understanding of the local community and cultural differences and similarities.
The 10 families met on Zoom each week to discuss different topics, such as the history of Bolton and local sports teams, favourite foods, significant historical/cultural places in Bolton, the exploration of different cultures, and ways in which a small action can make a big difference to the community. The 10 families have also take part in the most recent ‘Worktown Walk’; a guided audio tour of Edwardian Bolton, courtesy of ‘Live from Worktown’. The families have worked with local poet, Oliver James Lomax, to create a poem about their favourite parts of Bolton; the poem has been recorded and will be released for the Day of Action. The poem itself has received glowing feedback from Bolton Wanderers Football Club Chairman, Sharon Brittan, who has since recorded an introduction to the poem.
