What is it?

In July, Greenside Primary School in Tameside launched a permanent ‘Duck Trail’ around the sunny Bank Vale greenspace. The trail has wooden posts and features ducks designed by pupils from the school.  The trail provides a permanent resource for the local community and visitors from further afield to have fun and explore the area.

The project, which has developed from a temporary trail put out in Easter 2020 during lock down, aims to encourage more of the community to visit the Sunny Vale greenspace and have active fun with family and friends.  Greenside Primary School worked with Friends of Sunny Bank Vale and Tameside Council, Landcare and Manchester and District Orienteering club.

How does it work?

The trail features QR codes with more information about the ducks, The website includes a downloadable map, a You Tube video tour of the duck trail by Year 6 pupils s and a template for people to design their own duck.

There has had a lot of interest since its launch with over 400 downloads of the map and 800 visits to the website in the first week.

The website for the trail can be viewed here

The Duck Trail has been supported by Manchester and District Orienteering club who helped develop the map and advise on the wooden posts and markers.  The project has been supported by funding from action Together and Tameside Council
