We’re excited to share that the Flowhesion Foundation has won the Sport England Community Sports Project of the Year at The Sporting Equals Awards! They earned this honour for their fantastic project, the Haliwell Girls Sports Hub.

This award shows how dedicated they are to helping more young girls get involved in sports, especially girls aged 11-17 from South Asian, Arab, and Somali backgrounds in Haliwell, Bolton.

The Haliwell Girls Sports Hub started in May 2024. It gives girls a safe and welcoming place to play sports that they might not usually get a chance to try because of barriers such as cost or travel. Right now, 58 girls are part of the hub, and they co-design the activities they do in six-week sessions.

The award ceremony took place on October 5, 2024, at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London. The event celebrated the achievements of people and groups from different backgrounds in sports, promoting the importance of inclusivity.

It was a glamorous night with well-known guests, including former Olympic champion Linford Christie, who won the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Olympic medallist Cindy Ngamba, who was named Sportswoman of the Year.

Arun Kang OBE, Chief Executive of Sporting Equals said: "We are delighted to have hosted the Awards in partnership with Sport England once again. It is great to bring together some of the most influential people, organisations and stakeholders in the sport and leisure industry to celebrate and raise awareness for the efforts in tackling racial inequality.”

“Following a summer of social unrest in the UK, the Sporting Equals Awards come at a critical time for race inequality. We feel strongly that sport plays a vital role in creating change in society and bringing communities together. The award entries that we received really highlighted the change that is needed and also being made by our winners. Congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding contributions to society.”

As we celebrate the Flowhesion Foundation's achievements, we invite our community to support their continued efforts in promoting inclusivity in sports. For more information about their work and how to get involved, please visit Flowhesion Foundation.
