Time on board - July 2018 to present
Why I joined the board - So many inequalities exist in sport that we as leaders can do better. That is the main reason why I applied for this Trustee role. Not to continue the status quo, repeat the same strategies or apply the same practices. I want to shake up the norm (whatever that is!). I want to challenge thinking and bring the importance of total inclusion to the forefront. As a resident, more importantly, I want to support Greater Manchester Moving to move boundaries for everyone within Greater Manchester, not just the few who enjoy an active lifestyle.
Current job - Marketing and Communications Manager for Activity Alliance. Activity Alliance brings our members, partners and disabled people together to make active lives possible. Collectively, we continue to challenge perceptions and change the reality of disability, inclusion and sport.
Professional Background - For around 20 years, I have worked in the sports charity sector. I now lead a busy marketing function for Activity Alliance, and manage two others in the team. We oversee all channels – website, social media, press and PR. I am responsible for achieving challenging Key Performance Indicators in marketing.
I am proud of my achievements in growing the function in size and reputation, working to a tight budget. This has included two rebuilds for our website and paid consultancy. Most recently in April 2018, I managed the charity’s rebrand and name change.
Skills I bring - I can offer leadership in marketing communications within the disability field and a passion for change.
Areas of Expertise - Inclusive marketing and communications. Knowledge and insight in disabled people in sport. Understanding of inactive markets, motivations and behaviour change.
As one of the few disabled people working at leadership level in sport, I am devoted to increasing the opportunities for under-represented groups and strengthening the diversity of our sector.
Personal interests/facts - I won the Inspiring Communicator Award in 2015.
