The latest Active Lives results published by Sport England show that Bury has recovered to baseline levels for active (62.1%) and inactive (26.8%) levels.

The inactive proportion has seen an increase in the last 12 months (+1.8%), although similar to baseline (+0.4%), levels are much higher than pre-pandemic levels (+4.2%) and now no longer below national levels (25.8%).
Prior to the pandemic (2018-19) most demographic groups were decreasing in inactivity, except those from lower socio-economic groups (NS SEC 6-8).
Those aged 35-54 and 75+ years, males and middle socio-economic groups (NS SEC 3-5) have seen an increase in inactivity in the last 12 months. Compared to lower socio-economic groups (NS SEC 6-8), those with a disability or long-term health condition and 16-34 years who have seen a reduction.
