Keep on moving! That’s the message from Trafford Council as it launches a campaign to get more residents across the borough involved in physical activity.

The Trafford Moving strategy for sport and physical activity will be launched on Wednesday 22 March at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club from 9am until 3pm.

The strategy aims to improve physical activity levels and mental health and wellbeing as well as addressing health and social inequalities in our communities.

The Trafford Moving team recently launched a pilot scheme in the Partington area where they worked with local groups on a number of ‘community challenges’, leading conversations with residents and testing a range of new initiatives.

The Trafford Moving launch day will focus on two key aspects:

  • Developing a community-based approach to physical activity and understanding what is needed in different localities to enable residents to move more during their everyday lives.
  • Understanding the needs of inactive communities and engaging with residents who face barriers to movement and being active.

We will hear from sector leaders and local communities on how they will support Trafford Moving and share knowledge and insight from the work they have done to enable movement in their work.

The strategy also supports the Council’s corporate priority to address health inequalities across the borough.

Cllr Jo Harding, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Culture, Leisure and Strategic Partnerships, said:

“It is important that everyone across the borough takes part in physical activity to improve their health and wellbeing.

"The refreshed Trafford Moving strategy is designed to encourage everyone to exercise as much as possible and to help those who find it difficult to do so.

“I would encourage as many people as possible to attend the launch of this fabulous initiative.”
