Role Overview:

An exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual to join Oldham Council’s Public Health, Moving More team to support our residents and our communities to be more active in their everyday lives.

Working in a collaborative way with our residents and partners, you will be responsible for the project management of a programme of engagement and activation which increases physical activity, reduces car journeys, and improves the health and wellbeing of Oldham residents.

This diverse role will quickly develop your knowledge and understanding of the wider Public Health and Active Travel work areas and ensure you make connections and relationships across Oldham and the wider system.

You will be required to promote health, wellbeing and physical activity and increase awareness of the benefits of being more active. You will facilitate community engagement and upskilling initiatives to empower community leaders and foster social networks that support residents to actively use infrastructure and assets available to them.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Developing and implementing high-profile activation and behaviour change programmes aimed at: integrating physical activity into our communities’ daily lives, reducing car journeys, improving health, and contributing to a greener, less congested Oldham.
  • Project management of the above programmes, working closely with Public Health, to ensure engagement and behaviour change.
  • Promoting health, wellbeing, and physical activity, and increasing awareness of the benefits of being more active.
  • Collaborating with communities and the voluntary sector to maximise the use of active travel infrastructure, as well as green spaces, recreational areas and other facilities. Identifying barriers to usage and working together to overcome these.
  • Facilitating community engagement and upskilling initiatives to empower community leaders and fostering social networks that support residents to actively use the infrastructure available to them.

 

Key Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you will need as a minimum:

  • A degree or equivalent qualification/s, or substantial project management experience in a related field, coupled with a commitment to continuous professional development
  • Extensive experience in community-based activation and engagement work
  • Experience of acting as a positive change agent, proactively working in partnership with others to achieve organisational priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and maintain constructive working relationships with internal / external leaders, and to persuade and influence others to bring about behavioural change and achieve desired outcomes / results as appropriate
  • Excellent organisational skills to complete tasks to potentially conflicting deadlines, re-prioritising own work as appropriate
  • An understanding of Active Travel, sustainability, public transport, public health, and their intersection with community dynamics and the expectations of communities
