Less than one in five young people (between the ages of 5-15) are moving for 60 minutes every day. It’s important to build positive attitudes around physical activity early in life to act as the foundation for a healthy life. Families, particularly parents and care-givers, play a big role in shaping children’s attitudes and behaviours toward physical activity. Here you will find the latest research related to the physical activity and sport levels, motivations and barriers of children and young people.
As we get older, we become less likely to be active, over half of all inactive people in England are aged 55 and over. We know that the barriers to being active as you age aren't necessarily related to age or physical ability. We also know that for older adults, making small changes to move a little bit more can have a massive impact on health and happiness. Here you will find the latest research related to the physical activity and sport levels, motivations and barriers of older adults.
As we learn more about taking a whole system approach to physical activity this section will gather key research and evidence to support our work.
