Oldham Overview

The latest Active Lives data shows that there has been a decline in activity levels across Oldham in the last 12 months. 66.2% of adults in Oldham are now moving (active and fairly active), this equates to 121,600 adults. Since Active Lives launched, November 2015-16, the inactivity rate has increased by 7.3%, meanwhile in Greater Manchester the rate has increased by 2.6%.

When this latest release is combined with activity data on children and young people, 148,100 Oldham residents are moving.

Demographic data

The inactivity gender gap in Oldham is 2.5%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has increased by 0.4%, however, women are more active than men. This widening has been driven by a faster increase in inactivity amongst men (+6.7%) than men (+6.3%).

The inactivity socio-economic gap in Oldham is 22.1%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has increased by 0.6%. This change has been driven by a greater increase in inactivity amongst lower socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 6-8, (+5.5%) than amongst lower socio-economic groups, NS-SEC 1-2 (+4.9%).

The inactivity disability gap in Oldham is 15.0%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has increased by 3.0%. This decrease has been driven by a larger increase in inactivity amongst those with no long term limiting disability (+9.4%) than amongst those with long term limiting disabilities (+6.3%).

The inactivity age gap in Oldham is 26.0%

Since November 15/16 the gender gap has increased by 0.4%. This increase has been driven by a larger increase in inactivity amongst the over 75's (+9.5%) than amongst 16-34 year olds (+9.1%).

Ethnicity

Due to limited sample sizes we have limited ethnicity data across the Greater Manchester boroughs. In Oldham 29.3% of those from a White British background are inactive whilst the rate amongst South Asians is 47.2%.
